About Us

Elyse Wrona, LCSW-C is a Clinical Social Worker and therapist who enjoys working with adolescents, teens and adults. She has extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma and disruptive life events, as well as those living with mood and anxiety disorders.

In working with individuals, Elyse focuses on their strengths, using a person-centered approach. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is critical to any effective emotional work, and strives to offer a comfortable space, free from judgement and filled with validation and empathy. Elyse often uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy with individuals, while also drawing on other approaches such as CBT and parts work (combining Ego State Therapy and Internal Family Systems).

Elyse earned her Master of Social Work from University of Maryland, Baltimore and her Bachelor of Arts from University of Rochester. Elyse is an EMDRIA certified therapist.

Our Story

Nurturing Resilience Counseling Center is a psychotherapy practice built around the principle that we are all resilient and can heal from past trauma or difficult experiences with the right support and nurturing. Despite our resilience, sometimes it can feel hard to persevere alone, especially when the adaptations that helped us survive the past now make life feel harder in the present. These are times when having someone beside you to help make meaning of the past, while reducing intense emotions associated with those events, is often crucial.  We want to be on this journey with you, as you endeavor to leave behind some of those negative beliefs and uncomfortable emotions that until now, may have seemed like they wouldn’t ever change.

We accept you just as you are: all races, creeds, genders, orientations, sexualities, etc. All parts are welcome here and no parts will be left behind.

What We Do

We offer a private, confidential space to explore the things that have happened and are still happening in your life, how they affect you and your relationships and how your quality of life can be improved. Whether you experienced a single traumatic event, a lifetime of emotional neglect, are struggling with increased anxiety from work or school, have noticed depression creeping in, or experience any other distressing feelings, we can help you reach a better place.

Many people have noticed that while talk therapy can be helpful and aids them in understanding and gaining insight, they may feel they reach an impasse. They might notice that while they logically know they are safe, they are good enough, they are loved … they still don’t feel these things to be true. EMDR can often help to connect what we know, with what we feel. If you’ve made progress in therapy but feel stuck, consider trying EMDR to help connect mind and body.

"Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood, and supported."

Bessel Van der Kolk

"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness."

Brene Brown

"Sometimes you don’t know the weight of something you’ve been carrying until you feel the weight of its release."
